Just a note...hair doesn't have to be freshly washed to flat iron. You don't need gel or anything sticky in your hair though before you flat iron, it'll leave a buildup on the plates of the flat iron and will begin to stick in your hair over time.

Dry your hair completely before flat ironing. If you don't, it will become frizzy. To keep your hair softer, use a little bit of either BioSilk Silk Therapy or CHI Silk Infusion and work through your hair. Always use a thermal spray on hair that you are ironing, V05 Miracle Mist (as mentioned above) is good, but my favorite is CHI Iron Guard. Take small sections of hair and slide the iron plates over it...too big sections won't stay straight. Keep in mind though, that with a relaxer, your hair is very brittle anyway, so don't leave the iron on it for long. Just slide it over the hair you're straightening, DON'T leave it in place a few seconds and go to the next part of the hair. I've seen a lot of people do that! You may want to get some help with it at first until you get used to it.

Yes..

ALWAYS wash your hair before using flat iron.

ALWAYS have something to protect your hair from getting fried.

Go to Wal Mart or CVS Pharmacy and buy the V05 Miracle Mist spray cuz it protects against any kind of heat put on your hair.

Buy big clips to section off your hair so it makes it easier to straighten it.

ALWAYS make sure your hair is dry(not wet)..you dont want to damage it!

When youre all done put something on your hair so it wont frizz from the humidity like a syrum.

Hope I helped you a Little Bit!

Use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, I suggest Dove Advanced Care Therapy. Also use a cream when you get out of the shower, I use Neutrogena Triple Moisture Anti Frizz Cream.

When you start straightening, obviously let it heat up completely. Seperate your hair half up and half down and clip the "up" part out of your way.

Take the flat iron and start as close to the top of your head as you can (be careful not to burn yourself) and close the iron. Gently pull it down at a continuous "speed" ( if you hold it on one part longer then another, it will leave a crease) and don't hold the iron on too long. If it doesn't seem totally straight or straight enough for you, quickly go over it one more time, but otherwise go on to the next piece.

Straighten in small pieces and make sure you brush out each piece first. Do the "down" pieces first and then gently take out small sections of the "up" part (you don't want to let the whole thing down because then it will be thicker and you would just be straightening parts that you already did, sorry it's kind of hard to explain).

When you are done straightening use a serum, I use Neutrogena Triple Moisture Healing Shine Serum. Take your shower and wash your hair at night and let your hair air dry and at about 80% dry, blow dry it totally dry. Straighten it in the morning. If your hair stays clean and straight for more than one day, don't wash or straighten your hair again because it's bad for it to do that everyday.

Good luck!

First of all, make sure that your flat iron is in good condition. After about a year and a half of using it fairly regularly, you will notice that it will take more time to straighten your hair. This will cause more damage.

To use:

(1) Wash and dry your hair. Work a good (alcohol free) straightening balm through your hair, paying attention to dry spots, difficult spots and the ends. Do not use too much product, or your hair will appear greasy and will have little kinks in it. For shoulder length hair, usually a dime-sized amount will do. For longer or thick, wavy hair, a little bit more will do. Feel it out. Allow the product to dry for a minute or so.

(2) Divide your hair into little sections. The smaller the sections, the better each stroke will straighten.

(3) Slowly run the iron through your hair. Be careful of your ears! They hurt (A LOT) when they are burnt. Make sure you go slow, but do not stay on the same piece for too long.

(4) Once you are satisfied with your hair, spray it with a light coat of hairspray, or work in some finishing balm.

**Note: invest in good quality hair-products, or it will be an expensive mess for your hair dresser to fix! As well, make sure you are having your hair trimmed at least every two months. At about 2 months, the ends will start to crack. If you keep them uncut for so long, they will crack even more and by the time you realize it, you could need to have 3-4 inches cut off your hair!
