Has anyone with thick curly hair gotten a Japanese straightening done, and liked how it worked?

I've wanted to try the japanese hair straightening, because it supposidly lasts long and works great.

For people that have gotten it done with thick curly hair, how did it work? Does it look straight and thin? How much damage did it do to your hair? Is it worth it?

I had it done last June, it's now been 9 mos. My hair is STILL smooth and silky. It was the best thing I've ever done for my hair. It looks and feels healthy.

My hair before this process was extremely frizzy and curly, but not only that, THICK! It was so unruly. My friends had it done, but I still didn't believe that it would work on MY hair b/c my hair was so bad. I still can't believe that I can wash my hair, let it air dry and it's straight w/o frizz.

The other posters are correct, your hair DOES grow in naturally, so after about 4 mos, I started to just flat iron the roots. Honestly it only takes me about 10 mins to do. It's so worth it. I did it in Queens, NY and only paid $180. I'm going for round two in a couple of months, before the summer.

I would recommend it to anyone who wants straight hair w/o fooling w/ it. It DOES work. This is not for someone who wants the option of curly one day, straight the next b/c it won't be curly at all. It will be completely straight w/ no frizz. Trust me! I was skeptical at first, too.

Very damaging, and when it starts to grow out, the roots are curly and the rest is straight. Also very $$$$. Not worth it , in m y opinion, but then again my hair isnt that unmanageable and unruly to begin with.

I have never had it done, but a colleague of mine had it done. It didn't make her hair look thin, but it was straight. It looked great and she loved it. I guess it's worth it because she keeps getting it done. The only downside is that when it grows out your roots aren't sleek like the rest of your hair.

It did make your hair straight and long but it is quite costly and when your hair grow, the new hair will looks different. A real good Janapese Straightening should last for at least 10 months! Becare, quite a lot of salon out there dont really know how to do it right!

I asked the same question. I heard it depends on the person doing it. You have to be really careful or it will damage hair. Anyway as fast as hair grows i decided not to do it.
