What is the difference between a Japanese hair straightening system and a relaxer?
ok, if you have a relaxer in any part of your hair you can not use a jap straightening system. A relaxer is sodium hydroxide, Jap is ammiona thio. When the two are mixed they cause a chemical reaction that will burn the hair causing extreme damange.. Now to answer your question.
The jap system also know as chi striaghtening, ionic, bioionic. optismooth etc.is normally done on non african american hair as the texture and curl pattern is to strong in that type to allow this type to work as the chemical isnt strong enough, This is actually the same chem used as the first part of a jerri curl.
A relaxer is usually a lye based product which is stronger and removes the curl from stronger hair and from a stronger curl pattern.

Japanese hair straightening last alot longer and is gentler to your hair. My sister in law had it done months ago (look to spend about 4 hours there and $400. though!) but her hair is still silky smooth and looks great! She used to have wild frizz and uneven curl and now she has no issues at all. She is half mexican and italian but her hair was just outta control. Whereas before she had the hassles of straightening irons and blow dryers and products, now she can even let it air dry and it still looks shiny and healthy and frizz free
